Make Your Own Unique Embellishments for Paper Crafting

Make Your Own Unique Embellishments for Paper Crafting

This week I would like to highlight a product that I believe makes paper crafting a lot easier.  The versatile and cost effective DieCut ‘N Bond comes in  a 25m x 120mm roll and is a paper thin adhesive sheet, perfect for creating flexible and beautiful embellishments, when used with your favourite cutting dies. The DieCut ‘N Bond saves time and allows you to adhere intricate die cut shapes to your project, without the use of messy glue.

For our project, I combined Diecut ‘N Bond with GoPress Heat Activated Foil (Rose Gold), to create an embellishment for one of the scrapbooking pages in our Lockdown Diary. The following steps were used to create this unique embellishment:

*Cut 2 pieces of DieCut ‘N Bond (slightly bigger than the die) and stick one piece to the front, and one piece to the back of a piece of smooth white cardstock.

*Remove the backing from one side of the DieCut ‘N Bond and gently lay a piece of Heat Activated Foil over the top of it. Use a brayer (if you don’t have one, a piece of roller towel will do) to make sure the foil is properly adhered to the cardstock, and that all the bubbles have been removed. While you are rubbing the foil, you will notice that as the foil sticks to the DieCut ‘N Bond, a thin sheet of plastic becomes detached from it. Gently pull this sheet of plastic off and discard it.

*Place your chosen die onto the foiled cardstock and run it through your Die Cutting Machine (GoCut & Emboss, Cuttlebug, Cricut, Silhouette etc.)

*Carefully remove your die-cut from the die, peel the backing off of the DieCut ‘N Bond (the piece you stuck on the back of the cardstock) and adhere your unique embellishment to your project!

That’s all for today – I hope you learnt something new!  Please post your completed projects, using unique embellishments you have created with DieCut ‘N Bond & Heat Activated Foil, on our Facebook page for us to admire and to inspire other crafters.

Take care, stay safe and happy crafting!

Save Money by Creating Your Own Background Paper

Save Money by Creating Your Own Background Paper

We have recently completed an entire 12 x 12 Lockdown Diary using only a single pack of patterned paper (Lockdown Paper Pack from De Art Studio) and we had leftovers for making cards & embellishments for other pages. Creating your own background paper allows you to stretch your patterned paper packs that much further, making scrapping a lot more economical.  This works especially well if you are doing an entire album with one theme.  To complete the background for our page, we used the following steps:

*Use cooled, boiled water to thin some Mixed Media Paste down to a “runny crumpet batter” consistency. Paint your background pages with this mixture, then set them aside to dry completely.

*Mix inks to the desired colour. I used White Kaisercraft Mist Spray and added black to one bottle, Turquoise to the second one and brown to the third one.  You could also use all purpose inks to colour the white mist, instead of using other coloured mists. Spray liberally onto the background sheet, and while still wet, scatter coarse salt (I used dishwasher salt) onto the page. You will notice that the salt immediately starts to absorb the ink, creating really nice patterns. Leave to dry completely.

*Dust the salt off of the page, then use a piece of roller towel to rub the page and ensure that all traces of the salt have been removed.

*Apply mixed Media paste (original paste – not the watered down one) to the page through a stencil and allow to dry completely.  Your unique background pages are now ready to use!

That’s all for today – I hope you learnt something new!  Please post your completed projects, using backgrounds you have created, on our Facebook page for us to admire and to inspire other crafters.

Take care, stay safe and happy crafting!

Tips, Tricks and Inspiration

Tips, Tricks and Inspiration

What better way to banish the Monday Blues, than to start the new week off with some tips, tricks and inspiration.  This week, we focus on the the fantastic, versatile, Tim Holtz / Ranger Distress Crayons.  The smooth water-reactive pigments are ideal for creating brilliant backgrounds, water-colouring and much more!  For the Christmas Tree pictured below, the following steps were followed:

*Using Stazon Ink, stamp an image onto white cardstock (or print an image from your computer as we have done).

*Using a soft paintbrush, paint a thin layer of Soft Acrylic Matt Gel Medium over the entire image and allow to dry.

*Randomly apply your chosen colours.

*Use a circular motion to begin blending the colours. I used my finger for the blending, as I found it removed the least amount of the crayon, but one could also use a dauber or piece of roller towel.

*Because the image was “sealed” with gel medium, you will be able to wipe off areas of colour that you are not happy with (using a wet wipe).  Once the area is dry, you could apply more colour of your choice and simply blend again!

*For our Christmas tree, I placed a star stencil over the coloured image, then using a wet wipe, wiped away the colour to reveal the white cardstock.

*Once the image was completely dry, I used a piece of roller towel (in a circular motion), to further blend the colours and tone down the contrast between the colours and the white stars.  Some of the colour did wipe off with the roller towel, but this process produced a softer image which I preferred.

That’s all for today – I hope you learnt something new!  Please post your completed Distress Crayon projects on our Facebook page for us to admire and to inspire other crafters.

Take care, stay safe and happy crafting!
