What better way to banish the Monday Blues, than to start the new week off with some tips, tricks and inspiration.  This week, we focus on the the fantastic, versatile, Tim Holtz / Ranger Distress Crayons.  The smooth water-reactive pigments are ideal for creating brilliant backgrounds, water-colouring and much more!  For the Christmas Tree pictured below, the following steps were followed:

*Using Stazon Ink, stamp an image onto white cardstock (or print an image from your computer as we have done).

*Using a soft paintbrush, paint a thin layer of Soft Acrylic Matt Gel Medium over the entire image and allow to dry.

*Randomly apply your chosen colours.

*Use a circular motion to begin blending the colours. I used my finger for the blending, as I found it removed the least amount of the crayon, but one could also use a dauber or piece of roller towel.

*Because the image was “sealed” with gel medium, you will be able to wipe off areas of colour that you are not happy with (using a wet wipe).  Once the area is dry, you could apply more colour of your choice and simply blend again!

*For our Christmas tree, I placed a star stencil over the coloured image, then using a wet wipe, wiped away the colour to reveal the white cardstock.

*Once the image was completely dry, I used a piece of roller towel (in a circular motion), to further blend the colours and tone down the contrast between the colours and the white stars.  Some of the colour did wipe off with the roller towel, but this process produced a softer image which I preferred.

That’s all for today – I hope you learnt something new!  Please post your completed Distress Crayon projects on our Facebook page for us to admire and to inspire other crafters.

Take care, stay safe and happy crafting!

Much love, Karen xxx
